Academy Defends Seth MacFarlane Against Two California Legislators

Funny man Seth MacFarlane’s controversial role as host to the Oscars earned him more than belly laughs during the Oscars 2013– he’s actually irritated two pretty powerful women. Two California legislators, Assemblywoman Bonnie Lowenthal and Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson, are speaking out against MacFarlane’s performance, enraged by his hysterical (and, yes, a little offensive) live routine.

The legislators deemed his performance sexist, sending a letter to Academy President Hawk Koch stating the following:

“From topical jabs about domestic violence to singing about ‘boobs’ during a film’s rape scene, Seth MacFarlane crossed the line from humor to misogyny.”

The Academy enthusiastically defended MacFarlane against these statements, praising him with positive words. The man put on a one-of-a-kind performance that only the Family Guy creator could deliver, and the majority rules: posts and tweets across America voted in favor of MacFarlane, though don’t expect to see him hosting again anytime soon…
