Artists Sues Spike Lee Over Movie Poster Images

Haute Lawyer Spike Lee

Spike Lee is being sued for copyright infringement over the movie posters for Oldboy. Juan Luis Garcia has filed a lawsuit against the filmmaker in California.

Garcia claims images of his were used without his permission on movie posters. He did not want the advertisement agency that backed the move to use the images as the monetary compensation was not sufficient, according to Garcia.

Lee took to social media to address Garcia’s claims, saying on his Twitter page that he did not know Garcia nor did he hire him.

Garcia is taking issue with the use of the © 2013 Spike Lee and © 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks tags displayed on the posters. A lawyer for Garcia stated the use of copyright attribution was false as no one else owns the images besides the plaintiff.
