Donald Sterling is going after his own wife and the National Basketball Association to stop the sale of the Los Angeles Clippers. Sterling is suing over the proposed $2 billion sale of the team to Steve Ballmer, Microsoft Corporation Chief Executive Officer.

Sterling claims his wife cannot sell the team to Ballmer without his approval. He is asking a judge to halt the sale and he is looking for unspecified damages.

The lawsuit comes as Shelly Sterling seeks to sell the team before the NBA can carry out a forced sale of the Los Angeles Clippers. To make her case, she has used the claims of two doctors who have said her husband is mentally incapacitated to be a co-trustee of the family trust.

Donald Sterling was forced out as head of the Clippers back in May when racist comments he made were publicized. Dick Parson was appointed as interim head of the team as a result.
