General Counsel for Facebook Ted Ullyot joined Washington State attorney general Rob McKenna in Seattle on Thursday to publicize a pair of lawsuits aimed at reducing “click jacking” scams on the social networking site. Both suits are targeted towards Adscend Media, LLC, who has been accused of developing an ad network that was created to develop and encourage others to spread spam through deceptive tactics.
Facebook filed its suit against Adscend in federal court in the Northern District of California, while McKenna’s office filed in the U.S. District Court in Seattle. By announcing the two suits in a combined press conference, Facebook and the Washington AG’s office showcased a synchronized, multi-state endeavor to battle these types of online scams.
In addition to Facebook’s anti-scam pains, the California-based company also provides detailed descriptions of the many safety threats facing its social network—along with steps users can take to defend themselves against such issues.
