Hudson Murder Trial Begins in Chicago

The trial against William Balfour, the man accused of brutally murdering Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew, started yesterday in Chicago. Hudson took the stand for almost one hour as the first witness in the case. Media reports that during her testimony, Hudson broke down and wept on the stand. She has vowed to attend all days of the trial.

Balfour was known to be a drug dealer and had relationships with at least three women while married to Hudson’s sister Julia. Balfour was also known for his tumultuous relationship with the Hudson sisters’ mother.

Hudson last saw her mother, with whom she had a very close relationship with, just days before her death. The award-winning actress and singer had often left blank checks so that her mother could pay household bills. Their last meeting was a family dinner, a rare occurrence for the Hudson family.

After she left the stand, Hudson sat with her fiancé David Otunga, protected by a personal bodyguard and two deputies.
