The man convicted of killing the mother, brother and nephew of singer Jennifer Hudson has been sentenced to life in prison.
A Cook County, IL judges gave William Balfour three consecutive life sentences for the 2008 murders of Hudson’s mother Darnell Donerson, her brother Jason and nephew Julian King.
Judge Charles Burns also added 120 years on to the sentence for convictions for home invasion and kidnapping.
Balfour was separated but not divorced from Jennifer Hudson’s sister Julia
at the time of the murders. Prosecutors argued that Balfour was angry over a gift Julia received from her new boyfriend at the time.
Jennifer Hudson testified during the trial. She told jurors that her family was not supportive of Balfour’s marriage to her sister Julia.
Defense attorneys had attempted to win Balfour a new trial citing the prejudicial nature of the famous singer’s testimony.
The judge denied the request.
