Peru Van der Sloot

On Friday, Joran van der Sloot was sentenced to 28 years in a Peruvian prison for the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores in 2010.

Van der Sloot’s sentence is scheduled to end on June 10, 2038 which takes into account the time he has already served. He is also ordered to pay $74,000 to the victim’s family.

Van der Sloot was arrested in May 2010 when police found him as the main suspect in Flores’ murder. Investigators believe he killed Flores after she found something related to the case of the missing Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway on van der Sloot’s computer. Police reports show that after the murder, he took money and bank cards from Flores’ wallet and fled to Chile.
