While you may have heard of prisoners digging tunnels to escape prison, trying to climb fences, or using the distraction of an inmate riot to make a break for it, this attempted prison break is an entirely new technique. Juan Ramirez Tijerina tried to make it through the prison gates while zipped inside a suitcase. Ramirez has served four years of a 20-year sentence in Cheturnal, Mexico. When his partner, Maria del Carmen Arjona Rivero came for a conjugal visit in July 2011, the two packed Ramirez into a wheeling piece of
luggage. Prison officials stopped Arjona when she seemed uneasy while walking to the exit, and they noticed her overstuffed suitcase. When they unzipped it, Ramirez was curled up inside. He has been returned to his jail cell, and Arjona was detained.
