Actor Kevin Costner has won a lawsuit filed against him by Stephen Baldwin over oil cleanup technology.
Baldwin and his friend Spyridon Contogouris were seeking $17 million in damages in the suit. They claimed Costner cheated them out of their stake in Ocean Therapy Solutions.
The company secured an agreement to sell equipment to BP oil for use in the cleanup following the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Baldwin claimed that Costner failed to tell him that the agreement with BP was in the works when Baldwin agreed to sell his stake in the company.
A jury deliberated for less than two hours before returning their verdict, deciding that Costner owed Baldwin and Contogouris nothing.
Costner thanked the jury after the verdict. “They were really smart, and it was my good luck that they saw the truth of the story,” he said.
