JOHN LANG—NEW YORK ESTATE AND TRUST LITIGATOR

Dedication to Concierge-Level Legal Services

Success in trusts and estates litigation requires a broad range of skills and experience. Too often it is undertaken either by an estate planning attorney who has never tried a case to verdict or by a trial lawyer who is a stranger to the special laws governing trust and estate controversies. Sometimes law firms try to compensate by putting together a team consisting of a prominent trial attorney, an eminent estate planner, and the usual legion of young bright associates. If, as often occurs, there are serious issues of fraud and major corporate assets are involved, then a criminal lawyer and corporate attorney may be added to the growing collection of attorneys. Even if the resulting fees were not an issue, it is unlikely that this army of well-meaning lawyers could provide the full spectrum of services and the quality of attention that the trust and estate litigation client requires and should demand. Quality of attention to the client’s needs is the hallmark of competence in this area of legal practice.

That is why John Lang, founder of Law Offices of John F. Lang, is dedicated to providing his clients with a concierge level of virtual 24/7 service. John understands that a client who has just lost a loved one has special needs. John knows how the pain of loss can be multiplied when a deceased parent’s intention of providing for a client may be frustrated by the carelessness, incompetency, selfishness, or deceit of others. When assets have been mismanaged, funds are unaccounted for, and suspicious new changed wills and trusts suddenly surface and shatter long-held expectations and plans, a strong highly focused response is required. It is not a time for amateurs or committees. It is a time for strength, compassion, and discretion.

Prior Experience and Honors

John Lang got his start as a trial lawyer when, following his overseas service with the United States Marine Corps, he joined the New York County District Attorney’s Office. There he gained extensive jury trial experience, served as a senior trial attorney in its Major Felony Unit, and was appointed Deputy Chief of the Frauds Bureau. Following further public service with the New York State Attorney General’s Office as chief assistant and trial counsel to a special corruption prosecutor, John went into private practice, taking with him his valuable experience as a trial attorney and in exposing sophisticated fraud schemes. He had become a gladiator for the victims of injustice.

John was a partner for close to 20 years with Loeb & Loeb LLP, a multi-service international law firm with a highly ranked trust and estate practice serving business leaders, members of the entertainment industry, and high net worth individuals. John had successfully tried a will contest jury case before coming to Loeb. At Loeb, he handled estate and trust litigations, sophisticated commercial litigation, and major white collar defense matters, including cases for well-known high net worth individuals and families. John was honored as a Super Lawyer by Thomson-Reuters, wrote a book entitled The Executive’s Guide to Depositions, and received national recognition for his pro bono work in the area of child advocacy.

Since leaving Loeb to found his own law firm focusing on trust and estate litigation, John Lang has been honored with the highest rating of “AV Preeminent” by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating of “Superb” by consumer website Avvo, has been selected by The American Society of Legal Advocates as one of the “Top 100 Estates and Trusts Attorneys in the State of New York,” and has been named a Fellow of Litigation Counsel of America, a trial lawyer honorary society.

Education, Court Admissions, and Professional Associations

John Lang has a Juris Doctor degree from Fordham University Law School and is admitted to practice before the courts of New York State, including Surrogate’s Courts, and before the United States Supreme Court; United States Tax Court; United States International Court of Trade; United States Courts of Appeals for the Second and Fifth Circuits; United States District Courts for the Eastern, Southern, Western, and Northern Districts of New York, the Connecticut District, the Northern District of California, the Northern District of Texas, and the Eastern District of Kentucky. He is a member of the American Bar Association (International Law Section; Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Section); New York State Bar Association (Trusts and Estates Law Section; Dispute Resolution Section); and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York (Small Law Firm Committee).

Reputation and Philosophy

John Lang is respected for his judgment, experience, dedication, courtroom prowess, and strategic insights. He has assembled a highly effective team of attorneys, including expert corporate counsel, who are dedicated to his philosophy of practice. That philosophy calls for providing large-firm quality representation with small-firm personal service; developing creative solutions that are suited to individual client needs, and offering client-centered, cost-conscious representation. While never flinching from the prospect of trying the most challenging case, the Law Offices of John F. Lang team knows the importance of developing powerful negotiating positions through which fair and just settlements can be secured and unnecessary litigation expense avoided. The firm welcomes overseas engagements and offers consultative services to planning professionals.
