Model Sues Match.com for $1.5 billion

model suing match

31 year-old model Yuliana Avalos is suing Match.com, stating that the website fails to effectively detect scammers using the likeness of herself and many other celebrities. The mother of two claims that her photos have been used in over 200 fake profiles, and that these photos are used in “romance scams” in order to entice individuals to send money out of the country.

Celebrities whose images have been used include Al Pacino, Jessica Biel, Lindsay Lohan, and David Lowe. Lindsay Lohan’s photo accompanies a profile for a user calling themselves “Jessica4366″ and states that she is a 30 year-old from St. Louis, Missouri who has never been married and wants kids. Avalos’ lawyer Evan Spencer said in a press release “I am obligated to defend my client and demonstrate to the public that her case is 100% legitimate and supported in both fact and law,” Spencer released screenshots of the fake profiles to the media on Monday.

Match.com has fired back to the case saying “The real scam here is this meritless lawsuit, which is filled with outlandish conspiracy theories and clumsy fabrications in lieu of factual or legal basis. We’re confident that our legal system is as adept as we are at detecting scammers and will dismiss this case in short order.”
