New Orleans police arrested Russell Brand on Thursday, March 15 for simple criminal damage after being accused of grabbing a photographers iPhone and throwing it through a window. On the Monday before, the paparazzi had filed a police report over the incident.
Bail was set at $5,000 and Brand was released shortly after his arrest. Brand’s response to all of this? Although his spokesman could not be found for comment, he has come to his own defense with an ironic comment on Twitter… “Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iPhone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory,” said the jokester.
Since the iPhone cost is estimated to be more than $500, Brand has been officially charged with a felony and has hired Robert Glass, a high-powered attorney from New Orleans, to defend him. Glass will argue that Brand was provoked and is set to fight the charges. Russell has already paid $240 to fix the window and is claiming the damage to the iPhone is very minor.
